Stoke by Nayland - Gainsborough & Constable Courses
Set amidst 300 acres of stunning Constable Country on the Suffolk/Essex border, and offering superb facilities, Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa is an idyllic and highly sought-after venue for golf and leisure breaks.
It enjoys secluded tranquillity yet is just 45 minutes from both Stansted Airport and the M25. The Club regularly hosts pro ams and prestigious worldwide-televised European Challenge and Senior Tour events. Stoke by Nayland Golf Club has also been titled the Regional Performance Centre for the PGA Eastern region.
Created in the early 70s, the two renowned championship courses, the Gainsborough and Constable, are both well-established with picturesque water features, undulating fairways, lakes and mature woodland, providing golfers of all abilities with a challenging test of their skills.
The Gainsborough’s 10th hole requires a drive and second shot over the same lake, when played from the medal tees, and was voted the best in East Anglia by the PGA. The designs skillfully incorporate the inherent natural beauty of the land and, with conservation a priority; over 60,000 trees have been planted. The Gainsborough Course measures 7,000 yards with a Par of 72.
The Constable course is equally picturesque, set amongst wooded fairways and several natural water hazards in glorious peaceful countryside. It measures 6,544 yards with a Par of 72, and, as with the Gainsborough, the final hole presents a formidable drive over one of the large lakes, to a plateau green with the clubhouse beckoning beyond. The sloping lies and well-positioned bunkers make this course a challenging test of golf.
The outstanding facilities include 80 contemporary-style air-conditioned bedrooms, five self-catered chalets (opening Dec 2011), a glass-fronted, two-story clubhouse overlooking the 1st tee and both 18th greens, a state-of-the-art Spa with pool and Technogym, stylish Lakes Restaurant, hotel lounge with welcoming log fire, golf shop and Pippin hotel shop.
